About Gga

Our History

Glitz Gymnastics Academy has a long and proud history, built on decades of passion, growth, and commitment to the sport of gymnastics in the Yarra Valley.

Our journey began as Croydon Gymnastics Club, operating from a pack-up setup within a local leisure centre. From these humble beginnings, the club evolved into Eastern Gymnastics Academy, based in a small industrial facility in Bayswater. Despite its size, the club developed a strong Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) program, producing Level 1–10 gymnasts, including many who went on to represent at state and national levels.

In 1990, a pivotal moment shaped the future of the club. Three dedicated coaches purchased Eastern Gymnastics Academy and relocated it to Lilydale, recognising the need for better facilities and greater opportunities in the growing Lilydale and Chirnside Park communities. The club moved to 12 Industrial Park, Lilydale, and many of the higher-level gymnasts and coaches made the transition.

This move marked a period of rapid growth and success. The club expanded from fewer than 100 gymnasts into one of the largest and strongest programs in Victoria, achieving significant success, including multiple Victorian Championship titles throughout the early 1990s.

As the sport progressed, so did the club’s ambitions. In 1996, the decision was made to further enhance training facilities with the addition of a foam pit — a rare feature at the time. This led to another move, to 18 Trade Place, Lilydale, where the club could continue to grow and develop its athletes.

Following a change in ownership in 1997, the club experienced a transitional period. Many senior gymnasts retired or moved on, and the club was purchased by the Feeney family. Shortly after, ownership passed to the Gill family, and the club was renamed Metro Gymnastics Academy.

In 2005, the Davidson family took ownership and introduced a new era, rebranding the club as Glitz Gymnastics Academy. Alongside gymnastics, the program expanded to include cheerleading, broadening opportunities for athletes and families within the community.

A major milestone came in Term 4, 2022, with the addition of the Healesville Campus, allowing Glitz to reach and support even more local families.

Most recently, at the end of 2023, the Cole family became the proud owners of Glitz Gymnastics Academy, continuing the legacy while bringing fresh energy and vision for the future.

Today, Glitz stands as more than just a gymnastics club — it is a community built on history, resilience, and a shared love of movement. With strong foundations and an exciting future ahead, Glitz continues to inspire the next generation of gymnasts.
